The display of historical ‘tools’ I brought to the Ottawa-Carleton Plowman’s Association AGM where I did a talk about this podcast (the small notebooks that my great grandfather John Richard Blanchfield used to track his threshing work and other services offered to locals were very popular):

Interesting article! Just out of OTHS I trained as an agent and operated on the CPR that ran through Osgoode! I trained with a guy named Nick Taylor from Osgoode and we trained under the station agent Al Denis! I found room and board with Arnold and Grace Morris on Nixon Drive while I was in training! When I finished training I worked as a spare in Bedell, Kemptville and Ottawa west only for a short time, because they started putting in the automatic block systems and shutting down the small stations! I would have trained at Osgoode Station in approx 1963!
This is so interesting. Incredible to think that was 60 years ago. Would love to hear some of your stories, and not just about the train! 🙂
