Every week on the podcast we’ll share some of the local events that are taking place in the area. So many great people doing great things – be sure you get out to support them!
The Osgoode Township Fish Game and Conservation Club’s ice shack is out for the season. Members will get the combination to the door lock by email. If you are not a member you have to join the club or go with a member.
January is Alzheimer’s Awareness month in Canada. We got together last week for dinner with some cousins and were talking about my grandpa, Ernie, and what we as a family went through when he had alzheimer’s for 7 years. Of course Grandma bore the brunt of it but we all have memories and what I remember is that we sure didn’t know much back then. He died in 1987.
The Kemptville Youth Centre is celebrating the receipt of a $4500 grant from Canadian Tire Jump Start program that will promote active recreation activities for youth 11 to 19.
Here are this week’s events:
Every Monday there is euchre at the Osgoode Legion, starting at 6:30 pm – everyone is welcome. Darts on Tuesday and Bingo on Thursday too.
Greely Legion hosting their monthly euchre tournament starting at noon. It’s on the second Saturday of every month and the next one is Feb 8, then Mar 8, Apr 12, May 10
Jan 23 – On Jan 23, there is a French Conversation Group starting at Metcalfe Library. 6:30 pm every second Thursday, it’s a drop in where you can practice your French conversation skills. The other dates are Feb 6 and 20, and Mar 6 and 20.
Jan 24 – Robbie Burns night at the Kemptville legion. The Kemptville Legion pipe and drums and dancers from the Andrea Goral school of highland dancing will perform at 6:30 followed by the presentation of the haggis. $50 includes dinner.
Jan 24 – Metcalfe Golf and Country Club Winter Buffet. Four course dinner with your choice of Korean dry spiced pork tenderloin, garlic butter shrimp skewers or roast beef au jus for $47 per person. Reserve your table today.
Jan 25 – Manotick Legion is also hosting a Robbie Burns dinner and dance. Three course meal with haggis is $35 in advance. There are limited tickets available.
Jan 25 – MDHA Trivia Night in Metcalfe. $25 per person or reserve a table of 8. Cheryl Cooper, Jamie Hodges and Natalie Currie. Fundraiser for Metcalfe Jets.
Jan 25 – A Killing in Kemptville: murder mystery dinner theatre. It is a fundraiser for House of Lazarus and the Kemptville Hub, hosted by North Grenville Community Theatre group and is taking place at St. John’s Church. It starts with a chili tasting competition and silent auction, and then the mystery begins! Tickets are $50 per person.
Jan 25 – Robert Plante 2nd Annual Winter Market on Navan road over 75 vendors, pet friendly. Food and coffee trucks, knife and tool sharpening, tarot card reading. Big event inside the greenhouses from 9 to 4.
Jan 28 – Happy Little Farmstead is hosting a hands on farm adventure for homeschooled children ages 4 to 10. Costs $15 per child and starts at 10 am. The kids will learn about farm animals in the winter, do a winter walk scavenger hunt weather permitting, hot chocolate with lunch (bring your own), winter craft in the afternoon and a free play and/or meet the animals in the afternoon. The day runs from 10 till 2. And space is limited.
Jan 29 – Osgoode Outreach, along with iSisters, is hosting a series of Basic Computer Skills workshops for seniors. They will cover basic computer troubleshooting, effective use of email and the internet, online safety and security, social media, AI basics and much more. The program runs Wednesdays at 1:30 pm for 6 weeks. Space is limited.
January 30 – Greely Winter Carnival – Jan 30 to Feb 2 – full calendar of activities – charity bingo, kids glow dance, firefighters pancake breakfast, magic show, outdoor activities, sleigh rides, absolute comedy show for adults, greely lion’s brunch and more.
Youth Associations:
Teen Drop in Grades 7 to 12 at OYA on Main Street every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. See their website for details.
Free Youth Drop In at G-YA Mondays. Open to youth in Greely grades 7 to 12 at Greely Community Centre, see their Facebook page for details.
YOMA Pre Teen Night and Youth Drop In on Fridays at the Community Centre. 6:30 for pre-teens and 7:30 for teens.
Kemptville Youth – Calendar includes mental health Mondays, cooking program, music and DND, scrapbooking, board games and more.
